Фото-галерею In 1630, the island started to shelter a fort destined to the defense of Salvador and of the Bahian Bay area and, still in the first half of the century XVII, a chapel, in the top of a hill, with the invocation to Our Lady of Luz, in Morro of Sao Paulo, and the Church of Saint Francisco Xavier, in Galleon. The island preserves stains of Atlantic Forest and mangrove swamps cover his countercoast. It has, still, the most beautiful beaches, spits, groves of coco trees and villages with traditional cultural characteristics. Hints: the local nature is very much diversified, with sceneries been composed of beaches, forests, hills and rivers. There are no motorcars in the island. Beautiful beaches, waters enclosed by corals, sceneries of leaving the delighted visitor. So it is the Hill of Sao Paulo, an island where the motorized means of transport are only tractors that do walks for the most distant beaches, going out in the morning and returning in the afternoon. For those who like doing walks, there are tracks and staircases that give access to the beaches. The lodging has good infrastructure, there are approximately 10 hotels, camping and more than 100 lodgings. Morro of Sao Paulo is situated in the northern extreme of the island of Tinharé, isolates what composes, together with Boipeba, Cairú and another 23 small islands, the Archipelago of Tinharé. The archipelago is to nearly 60 kilometers to the south of Salvador. The Archipelago of Tinharé is also the only local authority-archipelago of Brazil, the local authority of Cairú, with thirst in the island of the same name. The islands are separated between themselves and of the continent for great channels of manguezais, fact that makes difficult the access when the point of still today many places is uninhabited and rarely visited, since the navigation is a dependant of tides and almost impossible accesses on the ground. The most accessible region of the archipelago is the eastern coast, where the beaches are. The water is more deep, though in almost his totality, the beaches are protected by reefs, being able to reach the beach only in some specific points. The channel to the north of the island of Tinharé also is deep, though it has sandbanks, and is for him that for it approaches to the Tip of the Farm-yard and the city of Valença, both in the continent. Too many channels are already flat and treacherous. Only the one who knows well the region dares sailing for them, and even so, not in any tide. ![]() Airplane: up to Salvador (Bahia) regular flights. There is air taxi service leaving from Savior.
