The region of Porto de Galinhas boasts more than 10 miles of white sandy beaches with clear warm water and coconut palms. Although only 35 miles (40 minutes by car) from Guararapes International Airport in Recife, the town seems to be far from city life. There are 7 linked beaches from Camboa to Maracaípe and its beautiful “Pontal”, taking in Muro Alto, Cupe and Porto de Galinhas beach.

Porto de Galinhas boasts hotels of international acclaim and world standard resorts with accommodation so close to the beach that it is possible to sleep to the sound of waves lapping the shore. The town has an ever growing gastronomic diversity including local seafood, Japanese sushi, Italian pasta and dishes prepared with sauces using local fruits and roots.

Porto de Galinhas is situated in the municipality of Ipojuca to the south of Recife. Besides the aforementioned beaches, Ipojuca has 3 more beaches to the south of the town – Enseadinha, Serrambi and Cacimbas – about 20 miles of coastline.making it the town with the longest stretch of coast in the state of Pernambuco.

Porto de Galinhas was voted the best beach resort in Brazil by the readers of the magazine Viagem e Turismo (Travel and Tourism) for the seventh time in 2007. It is the most famous beach of the Northeast of Brazil for people living in the south of the country and has acquired international fame.

The beach has a 4km stretch of pure white sand, palm trees and crystal clear warm water. In its natural pools – the most accessible in NE Brazil (just 5 minutes by jangada from the town centre), you can enjoy safe swimming as well as seeing the colourful tropical fish. The beach is very fashionable nowadays and is managing to cope well with its fame and development. With the growth in tourism, the local government has had to invest in infrastructure to make it possible to cater for all tastes. In short, Porto de Galinhas offers an excellent location with clear warm water - perfect for all bathers including children.

On the beach of Porto de Galinhas you can rent a jangada (a small fishing raft with sail) to visit the natural pools, take a buggy to discover other local beaches, rent diving equipment and participate in many other activities.
